At the start of the Ride |
 |
All participants must
complete and sign a ride imdemnity
form, you can download them from the
attached link. <Click
Here> |
 |
Where permits are required, all riders are to provide their own, except
when a group permit is supplied by the DSMRA. The ride details should
say whether permits are required. You must adhere to the conditions of
the permit.
|
 |
The initial ride plan should not to be changed or altered in anyway
unless there is good reason and all riders (members) are informed and in
favour of the proposed ride plan.
|
 |
Riders must be understand
fully briefed on the ride system to
be used before the start of the ride.
DSMRA generally uses the <Cornerman
System>. |
 |
The lead rider is
in control and will determine the route/direction of the trail ride in
relation to the ride plan on the day.
|
 |
It is not the responsibility of the DSMRA or its members to chase or
locate any rider who blatantly disregards the riding system on the day.
|
 |
Use common sense riding techniques, do not deliberately take riders to
dangerous areas, explain the road rules. Keep to the left, fire trails
are still public roads.
|
 |
Its the Ride Leaders Responsibility to ensure that 2 way radios, other
communication devices, epirbs and first aid kits are provided for a ride
in case of lost riders, injuries or bike problems.
|
 |
If you are on a corner do not leave that corner until the sweep tells
you to go. If someone has missed the corner the sweep will go look for
the rider. You will still need to stay there untill the sweep returns
with the lost rider.
|
 |
Sometimes you may be stuck on a corner for hours, this can be because
of a lost rider, broken bike or an injury, you must stay there untill
the sweep urges you on.
|
If You Get Lost |
At the next regrouping point your absence will be noticed.
Back-track until you get to the last corner you saw a cornerman.
You must Sit and wait for the sweep rider to return, stay where you are.
It is most important that you do not go looking for the group as you
could miss a turn and get even more lost.
The ride will not continue untill you are found.
|
Injured Rider |
First rider on the scene stops and gives aid in whatever way possible.
Second rider stops the lead so that help can be organised. When the sweep
arrives he will notify all those with radios including the sweep.
It is up to the lead and sweep to take the appropriate course of action
which may mean pressing the EPIRB.
Whatever decision is made, everybody must adhere to this,
next time it could be YOU.
Make sure you have Ambulance cover.
|
Broken Bike |
| First
rider on the scene stops and gives
aid in whatever way possible. Second
rider informs the lead so that he/she
knows whats happening. The sweep comes
along and offers assistance also.
Please note it is up you to have spares
etc, if you don't then usually someone
else does which means you need to
replace whatever they give you. <Click
Here> to see what you
should be carrying. |
Other General Stuff |
 |
Always advertise the start time as half an hour prior to the actual time because you will get late starters.
|
 |
Give a brief talk at the start welcoming everyone and laying down the rules, emphasising FUN ride, not a race.
|
 |
Give a talk at the finish about the DSMRA and have membership forms and brochures to hand out.
|
 |
Pre ride the course one week prior to the actual date.
|
 |
Be carefull especially after bad weather, trees may be down, there may
be mud, rain and other unforseen obstacles. Let the group know this after
bad weather, its better to prepare them for problems than say nothing.
|
 |
Be helpful not arrogant (the ride is for the members, not you).
|
NOTE
: The
above information is to promote general
awareness of the DSMRA and how it
conducts is rides to all. All riders
will fill out an indemnity form prior
to the ride. Whilst we provide as
much care as we can -its the riders
responsibility to be prepared and
ready for unforseen occurences.
